A little bit about the Orphanage by Karin White

Hello everyone,

As a lot of you guys know, Leo was able to go, because one of his friend from residency at Florida Hospital, Dr. White, had some connections in Haiti. Him and his wife, Karin, recently adopted a little boy, name Clifford... Here is what she had to say about where Leo is, and some picture from preview trips.

In 1998, the Jacksonville Baptist Association established JBA Haiti and launched the Cabaret Baptist Children’s Home outside the city of Cabaret. From the beginning, our intent has been to develop ministries that will enable Haitian children and adults to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and through Him, change the country of Haiti. Since 1998, we have opened an orphanage housing 40 children, an
academy consisting of a school for children in Kindergarten through 6th grade, and English classes and a trade school for adults in the community. Our ministry also includes a church thatnot only gathers to worship but goes out to minister in the community to those in need. jbahaiti.org
...I don't know if I told you how we got involved but my dad went down
with his church to repair a well and after a few trips his friends there asked him if his son-in-law dr could come down and check the kids out. we tried to go in 2006 but they were having the prez. election and there was violence. we ended up going in feb. 07, august 07 i went w/o him march 08 and then we went again june 08...we have been so blessed to be a part of it all...today michael wrote that he can see how God formed this team i wish i was there so badly it makes my heart ache...but they are going to do such great things for the people there!

1:51pm... News from Leo!

Got here yesterday and doing well.
We saw over 100 patients this AM - taking care of common ailments such as musculoskeletal complaints (back and joint pain), headaches and rashes.
Many of the children are malnourished and we had to give IV fluids to an 8 day old premature baby that had not been feeding.
The line outside the orphanage of people waiting to be seen, has been growing since early this morning.
Our supplies and pharmacy are well equipped to handle just about everything that we have seen so far, but there are a few instances where the needs of the people are greater than we can provide - as the case of a 38yo man who lost the vision on his L eye approximately 1 year ago - likely secondary to glaucoma and completely preventable.
We are currently in Bercy, a small village outside of Cabaret, which is 15 miles North-West of Port-au-Prince.
We plan to set up a clinic in Cabaret tomorrow, and we will staff a teaching hospital in Titanyen on Friday and Saturday.
I will send you pictures as frequently as possible.
Take care,
Leo Vieira

"What a cool guy, but you know that. We are busy seeing people here in Bercy. (they are I just carry the heavy stuff). I will post pics this afternooon. I left my camera at the clinic but Leo has pics of him letting the kids use his stethascope(you get the idea)."... and yes, I can picture Leo letting the kids play with his stethascope!! So Leo!!!!

1:15pm... A little message from Dr. White to his wife...

"Leo & John are seeing patients. We saw about 100 people this morning & will see another 100 after lunch"

Good to know that they are working and busy!! Will keep you post it!

1PM - Haven't talk with Leo yet!

Hi everyone,

how are you?
I've been waiting to hear from Leo, but I can only imagine how busy they are!
As soon as I have news from Leo and/or team, I promise to post it!
Got a great email from Lisa (St Petersburg Times)... they continue to follow up on the team - thanks!
Trying to get more people to write about it... if anyone knows any reporters, newspaper, TV producer, etc... have them check out our blog... more publicity, more help!!
Another way to help? Send the blog to everyone... not only they can make a donation (if they wish to), but they can help spreading the world to their friends, and so on!!!
thanks so much for all the love and support!
